HOLISTIC DENTISTRY

The practice philosophy of holistic dentists is centered on a more global perspective of health. The two mainstays of this approach are:
"First, do no harm" and "Think globally, act locally".

  1. Holistic dentists treat CLIENTS, not PATIENTS: a patient passively receives treatment based upon the practitioner’s values and objectives. This concept is derived from the traditional medical model.
A client, on the other hand, actively participates in the selection and application of treatment modalities with the dentist. This model implies a sharing of responsibilities in reaching the mutually set health goal. An enriching experience for both parties!
  2. Holistic dentists offer both conventional and complementary care: More and more, consumers prefer – and indeed demand – treatment without side effects. The holistic dentist has received conventional university training and has taken continuing education in alternative and complementary medicine in order to offer his clients safer alternative therapies. He has a good knowledge of the alternative network of practitioners and will not hesitate to refer to the appropriate one should the need arise.

  3. The holistic dentist uses more biocompatible products: Some conventional dental materials may contain elements that can challenge and endanger the immune system. Mercury in dental amalgam comes to mind as well as nickel and lead in some crowns, fluoride, etc. A holistic dentist will protect his patients from the deleterious effects of such products.
  4. Finally, the holistic dentist is environmentally friendly: He recycles and uses products and techniques that are safer for nature.
  5. Shouldn’t you seek a holistic dentist?
